Ban Ki-moon Awarded Presidential Medal of Honor

The UN secretary-general elect Ban Ki-moon was awarded a medal of honor by President Roh Moo-hyun on Tuesday. Ban received the Order of Service Merits, which is given to ministers who carry out their duties in an exemplary way.
Earlier in the morning on Tuesday, Ban visited Prime Minister Han Myung-sook to bid her farewell. The diplomat stepped down as Korea's foreign minister last week to officially end his 37-year political career in his home country.
He leaves for New York on Wednesday to prepare to take office as the eighth chief of the UN in January 2007.
